Exercise 10

We do not need to tag ‘my men’ as well as the family members, but here, as in earlier documents, is important evidence of the links between these various benefactors of the priory and the family of the founder, Alberic de Vere.
Notice here that a man called Robert is described as son of Godwin Pulifan. We cannot tell from the descriptor alone whether Pulifan is his father’s byname, and hence specific to Godwin, or a surname borne also by Robert. This is another case (as we had in Document 1) where the descriptor contains the complete name record of another person.
